Established in 1989, the Fraser River Discovery Centre Society (FRDCS) is the only organization in Canada solely dedicated to interpreting and celebrating the Fraser River—the largest salmon-bearing river in North America. As both a designated museum and science centre, the FRDCS offers programming that explores the river’s historical, environmental, and cultural significance. Our 17,000-square-foot interpretive centre on New Westminster’s riverfront boardwalk hosts exhibits, education programs, and events that showcase the river’s role in shaping the region’s past, present, and future.
In 2020 the FRDC entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with the Musqueam Band with the intent to develop the Fraser River Discovery Centre as xʷtatəl̕ləm, a Place of Learning about the Indigenous heritage and teachings of the Fraser River.
Our Vision
A living, working Fraser – with thriving peoples, ecosystems, and livelihoods – from headwaters to the Salish Sea.
Our Mission
To bring together the many voices of the Fraser to discover, celebrate, and inspire passionate stewards of the River.
